Each lesson brings together Chinese language, stories and cultural practice. Activities are selected to suit the class.

  • Listen & speak: shared stories, reading aloud and pronunciation practice.
  • Read & write: character recognition, character origins and stroke order.
  • Explore & connect: creative play, cultural activities and practising respectful greetings.
  • Make & discover: activities combining science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics and culture.

How we plan learning

Purpose behind the play

Our curriculum draws on Taiwan’s TOCFL and CCCC Traditional Chinese proficiency frameworks—reference points for planning language learning. Teaching also draws on the NSW Quality Teaching Framework, with its focus on understanding, engagement and whole-child development.

In practice, this means structured language activities alongside stories, creative play and cultural connections.

Which class is right for my child?

Saturday groups are organised for toddlers aged 1–3, preschoolers aged 3–4, and primary students at Levels 1–3. Online classics reading and private lessons welcome all ages. Use the class finder to explore a starting point and ask us about suitability.

Does my child need to know Chinese already?

Starting levels vary. Private lessons cater for beginners through to advanced learners. For group classes, tell us about your child’s experience so we can discuss a suitable group and pace.

Where are classes held?

Big Tree Language lists Fairfield and Elderslie in Sydney as teaching locations. Classics reading is also offered online. Contact us to confirm the venue for your chosen class.

What are the fees, and can we try a class?

Please ask us for the current fees, places available and any trial options for your chosen program before enrolling.

What happens after I find a class?

You can open an email enquiry with your preferences, or call us to discuss the class. If you’re ready to register, use the existing enrolment form.
